Roatan had a nice feel to the island but we didn't really get to see it. The port we landed at had like a tourist shopping mall just as you got off the ship, a nature trail through woods and a beach but these were basically tourist areas only and you didn't get to wander out of it. We think we might have seen an escape route but weren't sure so stayed in the compound! As compounds go it was nice and you weren't hassled by locals wanting you to go in their taxi and things like that but I don't think we got a proper feel of the place.
Their were lots of mini little touristy shops with the normal tshirts, cups, magnets and things like that but also a Christmas shop which got us excited, and we managed to get a decoration for our tree in there. Wherever we go on our travels we try and buy a Christmas decoration. It is nice at Christmas time as it helps you to remember places you have been.
Once we did that we wandered through the nature trail down to the beach area, it was a dull day starting with a massive downpour which had us running from shop to shop, so we didn't take any swim wear with us, we basically just went for a nosey.
At the beach was a pub with these commands on the steps leading into it.
At the beach was this little pier, we sauntered down it and could see lots of fish in the sea, so we wished we had brought our snorkelling gear with us. Even though it was dull and overcast it was warm and other tourists from the ship had braved it by going in the water.
Alongside the sea was a mangrove in which many birds and insects were hiding.
Heading back through the nature trail we ended up back at the shops where I found the perfect accessory to hide my tummy - a huge prawn/shrimp. Every woman should have one in their wardrobe!
The gardens at the side were lovely so many colourful flowers out on display. All this walking was hard work for David so he decided to take a rest.
After a hard day in the compound we sailed out to sea.
